How to Program Your Lexus RX300 Car Remote: A Step-by-Step Guide

Programming your Lexus RX300 car remote can seem daunting, but it’s a straightforward process you can complete at home with a few simple steps. This guide provides a clear, easy-to-follow method to program your remote, ensuring you regain full access to your vehicle’s keyless entry system. Whether you’ve lost a remote, or added a new one, this guide will walk you through the programming sequence.

Step-by-Step Programming Instructions

Follow these steps carefully to program your Lexus RX300 remote successfully. It’s crucial to adhere to the time limits specified in each step for the programming to work correctly.

Step 1: Preparation

Begin by removing the key from the ignition switch. Ensure that the driver’s door is open and unlocked, and all other doors are closed. Insert the key into the ignition switch, and then immediately remove it. This initializes the programming sequence.

Step 2: Initiate Lock/Unlock Cycle

Within 40 seconds of completing Step 1, press the door lock switch to the LOCK position. Immediately, within one second, press the door lock switch to the UNLOCK position. Repeat this lock-unlock procedure continuously until the door locks have cycled lock and unlock five times. After the fifth cycle, close and then open the driver’s door. This action signals the system to enter programming mode.

Step 3: Enter Programming Mode

Again, within 40 seconds of Step 2, repeat the lock and unlock procedure described in step 2 (five lock-unlock cycles). Do not close and open the driver’s door this time. Immediately insert the key into the ignition switch. To select the desired programming mode, turn the ignition switch to the ON position and then back to the LOCK position. Perform this ignition cycle the specified number of times within one second, according to the REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION table below. Finally, remove the key from the ignition switch.

REGISTRATION MODE SELECTION

Registration Mode Number of Ignition Switch Cycles
Add Remote 1
Rewrite Remotes 2
Confirmation 3
Prohibition 5

Step 4: Confirmation (Optional)

If you selected Confirmation Mode (3 ignition cycles), the door locks will cycle between 0 to 4 times. The number of cycles corresponds to the number of transmitter codes currently stored in the ECU. For example, if two codes are stored, the door locks will cycle twice. After the door locks cycle, the confirmation process is complete. If you selected a mode other than confirmation, proceed to the next step.

Step 5: Transmitter Registration

Within 40 seconds of completing Step 3 (or Step 4 if confirmation mode was used and is now complete), press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for at least 1.5 seconds. Then, within 3 seconds of releasing these buttons, press and hold any button on the transmitter for at least one second.

Step 6: Verify Programming

Observe the door locks. If the door locks cycle one time within 3 seconds, the new transmitter code has been successfully accepted and programmed. If the door locks cycle two times, the new transmitter code was not accepted.

To program an additional transmitter or retry programming, return to Step 5 within 40 seconds and repeat the process.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully program your Lexus RX300 car remote and enjoy the convenience of keyless entry once again. If you encounter any issues, double-check each step and ensure you are within the time limits.
