- Educational Background: A Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university is required. Current students anticipating graduation by the end of the current semester are also encouraged to apply.
- Relocation Flexibility: Be willing and able to relocate one to two times during the rotation period as program tracks may require diverse geographical experiences.
- Professionalism and Self-Management: Demonstrate a high level of professionalism, discretion, and the ability to effectively manage your time, especially when working from remote locations.
- Communication Skills: Possess excellent written and oral communication skills to effectively collaborate and contribute in a team environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Be proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel to handle various tasks and projects efficiently.
- Travel Capability: Be prepared for travel up to 15-25% of the time, including periodic overnight travel, depending on the specific rotational track.
- Work Authorization: Must be currently authorized to work in the U.S.

Work Environment and Physical Demands: What to Expect Daily
The Smithfield Career Foundation Program offers a diverse work environment, blending office settings with facility and laboratory experiences. You should be prepared for:
- Varied Environments: Work in office, facility, and laboratory settings, which may involve physical activities such as lifting, stretching, bending, reaching, walking, climbing, and travel by car and aircraft.
- Plant Environment Exposure: While the majority of your time will be in an office setting outside of production plants, plant environments may include wet or humid conditions, extreme temperatures (non-weather related), proximity to moving mechanical parts, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, and chemicals.
- Moderate to Loud Noise Levels: The noise level is generally moderate in office environments but can be loud in production areas.
- Physical Requirements: Occasionally lifting and/or moving up to 25 pounds. Specific vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently required to sit, use hands, and communicate verbally and audibly.
