Egypt Extends Tax-Free Car Import Initiative for Egyptians Abroad

The Egyptian Ministry of Finance is continuing its initiative designed to simplify the process for Egyptians living abroad to import vehicles without incurring taxes. Finance Minister Mohamed Maait and Al-Shahat Ghatouri, Head of the Customs Authority, have reviewed the progress of this program, which has now been extended for an additional three months. The online platform for applications has reopened, starting this Monday, to accommodate new requests.

Minister Maait has directed officials to accelerate the issuance of import permits to ensure timely processing for all applicants. He stressed the importance of clear and proactive communication with Egyptians abroad who are interested in taking advantage of this Car Program For Ministry Of Finance. A dedicated international hotline, 15460, is available to provide immediate assistance, offering expert guidance and answers to any questions or challenges that may arise during the application process.

The terms of the initiative include reduced customs fees, which remain valid for five years from the date the import permit is issued. Beneficiaries have the flexibility to choose any vehicle and even change their selection within this five-year period. Crucially, the vehicle’s year of manufacture is a key determinant in calculating the deposit amount required to be transferred to the Ministry of Finance’s account at the National Bank of Egypt.

Minister Maait clarified that deposits made by participating Egyptians abroad are refunded on their due dates, calculated at the prevailing exchange rate at the time of repayment. For those who decide to withdraw from the car program for ministry of finance after a year from obtaining their import permit, a request can be submitted via the online platform. Refunds are processed within three months at the exchange rate applicable at the time of withdrawal.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Finance issues a bond to the public treasury for the deposited amount, providing an added layer of security for Egyptians participating in this initiative.

Al-Shahat Ghatouri confirmed that the international hotline 15460 is fully equipped to handle all inquiries from Egyptians abroad efficiently, ensuring a smooth and responsive service for everyone engaging with this car program for ministry of finance.
