Amazon has selected The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) as an official education partner for its Career Choice program, marking a significant opportunity for Amazon’s hourly employees. This collaboration enables eligible Amazon team members to pursue bachelor’s degrees at UTEP, furthering their career aspirations.
This partnership under the Amazon Career Choice Program 2023 provides Amazon’s employees access to UTEP’s extensive catalog of 75 bachelor’s degree programs. UTEP’s Vice President for Enrollment Management, Amanda Vasquez, Ph.D., expressed enthusiasm for the program, stating, “We’re very proud to offer Amazon employees the opportunity to pursue any of our 75 excellent bachelor’s programs and look forward to supporting their future success.”

The Amazon Career Choice program is designed to support employees’ growth, whether they aim to advance within Amazon or pursue opportunities elsewhere. The selection process for educational partners is rigorous, emphasizing institutions that demonstrate a commitment to student support, effective job placement assistance, and high-quality education that translates to real-world career advancement.
Heather Smith, Ph.D., UTEP’s Vice Provost for Advising, Academic Success and Student Support, highlighted UTEP’s dedication to student success: “Our University’s commitment to an excellent education is attracting attention. Our holistic and integrated advising model is designed to assist students with balancing educational aspirations with external commitments in order to achieve success. I look forward to our partnership and meeting Amazon employees who will be pursuing their degrees at UTEP.”
Amazon’s Career Choice initiative represents a substantial $1.2 billion investment to upskill over 300,000 employees by 2025 across the U.S. This program offers a variety of educational paths, including tuition coverage for college degrees and industry-recognized certifications, all aimed at preparing individuals for in-demand, higher-paying roles.
