DEF Gauge Not Working: A Common Problem in Cold Weather

Many Ram truck owners have reported issues with their Def Gauge Not Working correctly, often accompanied by limp mode activation. This problem seems to be prevalent during periods of extreme cold weather. Dealerships have reported a surge in similar cases, with some attributing the issue to a faulty DEF sensor affected by temperature fluctuations. A simple ECM flash is often the solution provided by dealerships to address this sensor problem.

One common scenario involves the DEF gauge getting stuck at a certain level, such as 3/4 full, even though the actual DEF level might be different. This can trigger limp mode, severely limiting the vehicle’s speed and functionality. Some drivers have experienced this issue while towing heavy loads or traveling long distances, resulting in significant inconvenience and potential safety concerns.

Dealerships have advised against adding DEF in extreme cold, suggesting that if necessary, it should be done in a heated environment.
