The Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is pleased to announce the selection of 24 fellows for the 2024 cohort of its Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP). Chosen upon recommendation from the LCDP Selection Working Group, this prestigious program is a 13-month fellowship crafted to foster a community of IBPOC (Indigenous, Black, and People of Color) leaders within the landscape of research libraries and archives.
The Arl Leadership And Career Development Program is dedicated to building upon the existing expertise of its fellows, while simultaneously promoting critical introspection regarding individual awareness and perspectives. The program actively supports the development and progression of each fellow’s leadership objectives. LCDP fellows will engage in a diverse array of experiences throughout the program, including participation in two Learning Summits, visits to two ARL library sites, monthly educational sessions, and the establishment of a mentor-sponsor relationship with a director or senior leader from an ARL library. Furthermore, the fellowship encompasses self-assessments, career coaching sessions, attendance at two ARL Association Meetings, and optional attendance at a Coalition for Networked Information (CNI) Membership Meeting.
Hana Kim, director of the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library at the University of Toronto and a member of the LCDP Selection Working Group, reflected on her experience, stating, “Being a 2013–2014 LCDP Fellow was a meaningful experience, and serving on the Selection Working Group for this year’s LCDP has been equally rewarding. The talent and dedication displayed by this year’s applicants have been truly inspiring… I am excited to watch them grow and see the impact they will have on the future of research libraries and archives.”
Jeannie An, research services librarian at McMaster University and fellow member of the LCDP Selection Working Group, added, “As a graduate of the ARL Leadership and Career Development Program (LCDP) and member of the Selection Working Group for this year’s LCDP cohort, it has been a very enriching experience. Seeing so many qualified applicants in this year’s pool was great. Their shared experiences reflect the need for such a program and the collective aspirations, commitment, and diverse perspectives.”
