The City of Aurora is proud to announce the launch of its innovative Cars For Seniors Program, officially known as the City of Aurora Ride Solution (C.A.R.S.) Transportation Program. This pilot initiative is a collaboration with select Community Business Partners and is designed to offer vital transportation support to senior citizens aged 60 and older, as well as individuals with disabilities within our community.
Responding directly to the needs voiced during the Senior and Disabled Listening Tours of 2021-2022, the City recognized a significant gap in transportation options for senior and disabled residents. The Cars for Seniors program is the city’s proactive response, a 6-month pilot running from July to December 2023, aimed at gathering essential data while immediately addressing the transportation challenges faced by a segment of our senior and disabled population.
This Cars for Seniors program partners the City with respected organizations: VNA Health Care, Association for Individual Development, and Senior Services Associates. Together, we are committed to providing complimentary rides to their pre-approved senior and disabled clients who demonstrate the most critical transportation needs. While these partner organizations already offer transportation services, the C.A.R.S. program is specifically structured to break down existing barriers. It aims to ensure continuous, dependable, cost-free, and accessible transportation with unrestricted mileage and geographical reach for participating clients. Seniors participating in the Cars for Seniors program can utilize rides for essential purposes including medical appointments, nutritional needs, employment opportunities, and wellness or recreational activities.
