CHCF Health Care Leadership Program: Developing California’s Healthcare Leaders

The California Health Care Foundation (CHCF) Health Care Leadership Program is dedicated to cultivating the next generation of leaders within the healthcare sector. This prestigious two-year, part-time fellowship is meticulously designed for clinicians—including physicians, nurses, behavioral health providers, dentists, and pharmacists—who are committed to enhancing their leadership capabilities while continuing their vital work in their respective organizations. Each year, up to 32 fellows are selected to participate in this transformative journey.

Fellows in the Chcf Health Care Leadership Program engage in six intensive seminars spread across the fellowship duration. To foster deeper learning and collaboration, participants also convene in regional groups, guided by experienced leaders, between these seminars. A cornerstone of the program is the California Health Care Improvement Project, where each fellow undertakes a project of their own design, aligned with the fellowship’s objectives, aimed at making a tangible impact on healthcare delivery.

The program’s curriculum is expertly delivered by nationally recognized leaders in health care and leadership development from the Healthforce Center at UCSF. It provides a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare landscape, integrating perspectives from both business management and public policy to address the multifaceted challenges and opportunities in the field.

Participants in the Health Care Leadership Program gain invaluable management skills and significantly enhance their leadership capacity. The program offers unique insights into the evolving trends and pressing challenges confronting California’s healthcare system. Upon completion, fellows join an influential network of over 600 alumni, fostering ongoing collaboration and continuous professional development. This network serves as a powerful resource for continued growth and impact in the healthcare arena.

Applications for the CHCF Health Care Leadership Program are welcomed annually from April through June. For comprehensive details about the program and the application process, please visit the Healthforce Center at UCSF website.

For alumni of the program, the CHCF Alumni Network page offers a platform to register for alumni events, participate in interest groups, and connect with fellow leaders.

It is important to note that the CHCF Health Care Leadership Program is distinct from the CHCF Health Equity Fellows. The Health Equity Fellows program is a separate two-year fellowship focused on cultivating emerging BIPOC leaders through leadership development, training, and hands-on experience with grantmaking for initiatives centered on health equity. Fellows in that program are full-time, benefited employees of CHCF, dedicated to advancing health equity.
