Volunteering at Swedish First Hill: What to Expect
Swedish First Hill welcomes individuals who are committed to providing consistent and meaningful support. All volunteer positions require a minimum commitment of six consecutive months, with at least four hours per week dedicated to your chosen role. Some positions may require a longer commitment to ensure continuity of care and program effectiveness. While we appreciate interest in weekend and evening roles, please note that these opportunities are less frequent. It’s also important to be aware that, like other hospitals in the Puget Sound area, we are unable to accommodate summer-only volunteer placements.
Your application, completed through our online portal, will be specifically for Swedish First Hill Campus, located at 747 Broadway, Seattle, WA. Our team carefully reviews each application, considering your areas of interest, availability, and the current openings within our volunteer programs. To ensure we find the most suitable match for your skills and passions, please complete the “Hours of Availability/Areas of Interest” section with detailed and accurate information.
Interviews are arranged based on the alignment of your interests and availability with our current volunteer needs. If your application isn’t immediately matched with an open position, it will be kept on file for one year and reviewed as new opportunities arise. Because volunteer needs evolve regularly, we don’t maintain a live, publicly accessible list of available positions. You will be contacted via email to schedule an interview as soon as a potential volunteer opportunity becomes available that aligns with your profile.
COVID-19 and Volunteer Onboarding
The ongoing presence of COVID-19 in our community, coupled with increased travel and social interactions, necessitates a gradual approach to onboarding new volunteers. We are proceeding slowly and anticipate a return to pre-COVID volunteer intake numbers only when a clear declaration is issued by the Washington State Department of Health, in consultation with our Infectious Disease Physicians. Please note that completing the COVID vaccination series is not a determining factor in your eligibility to volunteer at our organization. Our primary focus remains the safety of our patients, staff, and volunteers.
