Since 1989, our program has been a pioneering force, proudly holding the distinction of being the first emergency residency in Brooklyn. Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), we have cultivated a long-standing tradition of excellence in both clinical practice and academic medicine. TBHC’s Emergency Department recently underwent a significant renovation completed in the summer of 2022, funded in part by a substantial New York State Department of Health Transformation Grant. This state-of-the-art facility greatly enhances our capacity to respond to traumatic injuries and illnesses. It includes a dedicated pediatric emergency room, ensuring specialized care for our youngest patients within minutes of their homes. Designated as both a Regional Stroke Center and a STEMI center, our ED is equipped to handle a high volume and complexity of cases, serving over 60,000 patients annually.

Located in the vibrant Fort Greene neighborhood, near Downtown Brooklyn, our 464-bed teaching hospital offers residents the unique opportunity to live anywhere in New York City and enjoy the unparalleled cultural and lifestyle offerings of this global metropolis. Our program boasts a strong and supportive team, including 32 Emergency Medicine residents, 15 full-time faculty members, and three dedicated administrative assistants. We are academically affiliated with the prestigious Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Medical Center, further enhancing the quality of our training and resources.
