Forscan Program Key: Ensuring Aftermarket Key Fob Functionality

Aftermarket car keys often present challenges, especially when it comes to the lock and unlock feature. While programming the key in PATS using FORScan typically enables the key to start the vehicle, it doesn’t always guarantee proper functionality of the lock and unlock buttons. This guide outlines a supplementary procedure to program your key fob specifically for lock and unlock functions, ensuring seamless operation. This method programs the vehicle to recognize your new fob’s signal, adding an extra layer of certainty to your key programming process. Remember, this process WILL NOT program the key to start the car; it solely focuses on the lock/unlock functionality. This step is done in addition to FORScan’s PATS programming.

Programming Your Key Fob for Lock/Unlock

Important: Gather all remotes intended for use with the vehicle, including the original ones. Remotes not present during this procedure will be erased and require reprogramming.

Step 1: Initiate the Process

Enter your vehicle, close all doors, and then unlock them using the power lock/unlock switch on the driver’s side door.

Step 2: Key Insertion

Insert your key into the ignition.

Step 3: Entering Programming Mode

Quickly cycle the ignition key from the “OFF” position to the “ON” position eight times within a ten-second window. Crucially, do not start the engine during this process. On the eighth turn, leave the key in the “ON” position. The vehicle’s locks will cycle (lock and unlock) to confirm you’ve successfully entered programming mode.

Step 4: Programming the Remotes

Within seven seconds of the locks cycling, press and hold the “LOCK” button on each remote you wish to program, including all original remotes. The vehicle’s locks will cycle again to confirm each successful remote programming.

Step 5: Exiting Programming Mode

Once all remotes are programmed, turn the ignition key back to the “OFF” position to exit programming mode.

Step 6: Verification

Test all remotes to ensure they can successfully lock and unlock the vehicle.

This supplementary programming procedure enhances the reliability of aftermarket key fobs, ensuring all functions work as intended after using FORScan to program the key to start the vehicle. By following these steps, you can confidently enjoy the full functionality of your new car key. Remember that FORScan is still required to program the key for starting the engine. This procedure is solely for ensuring reliable lock and unlock functionality.
