FORScan Subscription: Free Trial vs. Paid Extended License

FORScan diagnostic software offers powerful vehicle diagnostics and programming capabilities, but certain advanced functions require a Forscan Subscription, also known as an Extended License. This license unlocks critical functionalities, such as PATS programming (key programming) and module configuration, which can significantly impact your vehicle’s operation. This article explores the differences between the free trial and paid FORScan subscription options.

Understanding the Need for a FORScan Subscription

Accessing critical vehicle functions like PATS programming requires an Extended License for safety and security reasons. Incorrectly modifying these settings could lead to serious issues with your vehicle. FORScan restricts access to these functionalities to prevent accidental or unauthorized changes. A FORScan subscription provides authorized users with the necessary access. The Extended License is required for the following:

  • Service: PATS Programming, TCM Adaptive Learning (for vehicles with Powershift transmission 6DCT250/DPS6)
  • Configuration and Programming: All functions within this section

Other standard FORScan functions do not necessitate an Extended License.

FORScan Subscription Options: Free Trial vs. Paid

FORScan offers two Extended License options: a free trial and a paid subscription.

FORScan Free Trial Extended License

The free trial grants access to all FORScan functionalities for a limited two-month period. This allows users to explore the software’s capabilities before committing to a paid subscription.

How to Obtain the Free Trial:

  1. Download FORScan: Download the latest version from the official FORScan website.

  2. Register on the FORScan Forum: While a forum account is no longer required for the free trial, registering can provide access to community support and resources.

  3. Request the Trial License: Generate a trial license request through the FORScan support system. You will need your FORScan Hardware ID, found in the “About” section of the software. Copy this ID to your clipboard.

  4. Submit the Request: Paste your Hardware ID into the request form and submit it. You will receive an email with your trial license key within a few hours.

  5. Activate the License: Follow the email instructions to activate your free trial license. An active license will be displayed in the “About” section.

FORScan Paid Extended License

The paid FORScan subscription offers several advantages over the free trial, including:

  • Extended Validity: Choose from 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, or a lifetime subscription.
  • Simplified Activation: Activate the license using a provided activation code.
  • Technical Support: Access dedicated technical support from FORScan.
  • Additional Features: Access firmware updates, new security functions (RF keypad learning, new PATS), and private forum sections.

How to Purchase a Paid License:

  1. Visit the FORScan Website: Navigate to the FORScan website’s product section.

  2. Select Your Subscription: Choose the desired subscription duration (1, 3, 5 years, or lifetime).

  3. Complete Your Purchase: Follow the checkout process to complete your order.

  4. Activate Your License: You will receive an email with an activation code and instructions. Enter the code into FORScan to activate your paid subscription.

Choosing the Right FORScan Subscription

The best FORScan subscription for you depends on your needs. The free trial is ideal for exploring the software and its capabilities. If you require ongoing access to advanced functionality, technical support, and firmware updates, a paid FORScan subscription is recommended. Consider the frequency of use and the importance of the advanced features when making your decision. Both options provide valuable access to powerful diagnostic tools for your vehicle.
