Integrating your Genie garage door opener with your car’s built-in remote system offers unparalleled convenience. No more fumbling for a separate remote – with systems like HomeLink and Car2U, you can control your garage door directly from your vehicle. These in-car technologies, typically found with three buttons located on your visor or ceiling console, draw power from your car’s electrical system, eliminating the need for batteries. Genie garage door openers are designed to be fully compatible with both HomeLink and Car2U.
Cars equipped with HomeLink usually feature a single LED indicator and often display a house icon on the central button. Car2U systems are identifiable by three LED lights, one above each button.

Step 1: Clearing Existing HomeLink Programming
Begin by clearing any previously programmed garage door openers from your HomeLink system. To do this, press and hold the first and third buttons simultaneously. Keep holding until the indicator light on the HomeLink system starts blinking slowly and then rapidly. This process typically takes about 20 seconds. Once the indicator blinks rapidly, release both buttons.
Note: Clearing HomeLink will erase all previously programmed devices.
Step 2: Training HomeLink with Your Genie Remote Control
Decide which of the HomeLink buttons you want to use for your Genie garage door opener. Take your Genie remote and position it close to the chosen HomeLink button, approximately two inches away. Press and hold the button on your Genie remote that you typically use to open your garage door. While keeping the Genie remote button pressed, immediately press and hold the selected HomeLink button at the same time. Continue holding both buttons until the HomeLink indicator light blinks slowly and then changes to a rapid blink. Once it blinks rapidly, release both buttons.

- Press the programmed HomeLink button a few more times. Your garage door should now begin to move, indicating successful programming.
For Older Genie Garage Door Openers with a Learn Button:
- Find the learn code button on your Genie garage door opener’s powerhead. Press and release this button. A red LED light will start blinking.
- Press the HomeLink button you programmed in Step 2 one time. The red LED on the garage door opener will stop blinking and remain on.
- Press the same HomeLink button a second time. The red LED will turn off.
