Accessing Legal Assistance through LAARK
Understanding your legal rights and responsibilities is crucial as a kinship caregiver. The Legal Advice and Referral for Kinship Care (LAARK) program is a statewide initiative designed to provide free legal guidance to kinship caregivers in Washington. Hosted by the King County Bar Association, LAARK offers advice on various topics relevant to kinship care, including minor guardianship, child welfare, education, housing, and public benefits.
LAARK lawyers provide free legal advice and referrals over the phone to kinship caregivers in Washington State, and even to those living outside the state with legal matters within Washington. It’s important to note that LAARK does not represent caregivers in court and is exclusively for kinship caregivers, with no income restrictions.
To access these valuable legal resources, apply online at LAARK’s website or call their voicemail at 206-267-7075 to leave a message. Take advantage of the support available through the kinship care program and LAARK to ensure you and the child in your care have the resources you need.
