Modified 2011 Honda Accord: A Showcase of Customization at SEMA 2010

The 2010 SEMA Show featured an impressive display of twelve modified 2011 Honda CR-Z sport hybrid coupes, highlighting the potential for personalization within the import tuner community. This marked a significant moment, showcasing the CR-Z as the first available sport hybrid ripe for customization. Among the standout vehicles were a 2011 CR-Z outfitted with MUGEN accessories, the Honda Performance Development, Inc. (HPD) CR-Z Hybrid R Concept, the HPD CR-Z Racer, and several models showcasing Honda Genuine Accessories.

Honda’s Commitment to Sport Hybrid Personalization

Bruce Smith, vice president of Parts Operations for American Honda Motor Co., Inc., emphasized the unique appeal of the CR-Z: “With the CR-Z sport hybrid coupe, drivers experience the efficiency of a hybrid without sacrificing the fun of a sporty car.” This combination of practicality, style, and driving enjoyment positions the CR-Z as an ideal platform for environmentally conscious drivers seeking personalized vehicles.

The MUGEN Limited Edition Accessory Kit

A highlight of the show was the unveiling of a 2011 CR-Z equipped with MUGEN accessories. Honda announced the release of a limited-edition MUGEN accessory kit in Spring 2011, restricted to just 300 units. This comprehensive package includes a full MUGEN body kit, front grille, rear wing spoiler, 17-inch “XJ” aluminum wheels, sport mats, a unique black aluminum shift knob, and a billet aluminum oil-filler cap. Each kit comes with a unique serial number plaque and color-matched painted parts to complement the five available CR-Z colors.

HPD CR-Z Concepts: Pushing Performance Boundaries

HPD unveiled two concept vehicles: the CR-Z Hybrid R Concept and the HPD CR-Z Racer. While not intended for sale, these concepts showcased the performance potential of the CR-Z for both street and track use. Both vehicles featured a turbocharger, upgraded IMA™ hybrid system boosting combined output to an estimated 200 horsepower and 175 lb-ft. of torque, performance clutch, limited-slip differential, circuit-tuned suspension, upgraded brakes, and aerodynamic enhancements. HPD further demonstrated the CR-Z Racer’s capabilities by entering two models in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race.

Honda Genuine Accessories and HFP Enhancements

Two display vehicles showcased currently available Honda Genuine Accessories for the CR-Z, including 17-inch alloy wheels, spoilers, a rear diffuser, illuminated door-sill trim, and an interior armrest. A 2010 Accord Coupe featuring Honda Factory Performance™ (HFP™) components demonstrated the potential for enhanced handling and a distinctive custom appearance. All Honda Genuine Accessories come with a 3-year/36,000-mile warranty when installed at the time of purchase.

The Accord Crosstour HFP Concept, a demonstration-only model, featured 19-inch HFP wheels, a full HFP body kit, a prototype lowered HFP sport suspension, color-matched door handles, and black-out door sash trim.

Import Tuner Community Embraces the CR-Z

Honda invited six independent tuners to showcase their customized CR-Z hybrid concepts at SEMA. These builds explored various approaches to enhancing fuel economy and performance, demonstrating the versatility of the CR-Z platform. The Los Angeles Auto Show and Honda Tuning Magazine also contributed special project CR-Z cars to the Honda booth.

The 2010 SEMA Show solidified the modified 2011 Honda CR-Z’s position as a prime candidate for personalization.
