Program Overview
The Aurora Lakeland RTT, or Rural Training Track, is a 1-2 Family Medicine residency program meticulously designed to cultivate skilled family medicine physicians. The program structure involves residents spending their first postgraduate year (PGY1) in Milwaukee, engaging in inpatient rotations alongside the Aurora St. Luke’s Family Medicine residents. Subsequently, for PGY2 and PGY3, residents transition to Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. This crucial phase focuses on immersive practice and in-depth learning of rural Family Medicine. Importantly, the Resident’s continuity clinic remains constant at Aurora Lakeland throughout all three years, ensuring consistent patient care experience.

The Aurora Lakeland Family Medicine Clinic in Elkhorn serves as the central residency practice site. Here, residents conduct their continuity clinic throughout their three-year program. Clinic frequency evolves from one half-day per week during PGY1 to 3-5 half-days per week in PGY2 and PGY3, allowing for increasing patient responsibility and clinical exposure. The clinic’s strategic location within Aurora Lakeland Medical Center provides unparalleled access to essential ancillary services, including on-site laboratory, radiology, and physical therapy departments.
