P026E Code: Aux Pump Issues and Stellantis Parts Allocation

The dreaded P026e code popped up, accompanied by higher than normal coolant temperatures. A visual inspection of the auxiliary coolant pump didn’t reveal any obvious problems like a loose connector, pointing towards a faulty pump. Scheduling a timely repair at the local dealership proved challenging, with the earliest appointment being three weeks out, despite explaining the urgency of a CEL and high temperature issue in Arizona’s heat.

In an attempt to expedite the repair, I contacted the dealership’s parts department to check the availability of the auxiliary pump. Unsurprisingly, it wasn’t in stock. While discussing the possibility of pre-ordering the part for a quicker turnaround on the scheduled repair date, the parts advisor revealed a concerning issue: Stellantis has implemented allocation limits on certain parts, restricting the dealership’s ability to order them regardless of the need.

Consequently, the dealership is unable to order the required auxiliary pump until two days after my scheduled appointment. This means even with a confirmed diagnosis, the vehicle will remain at the dealership for at least three more days, awaiting a part readily available in three local warehouses according to their internal system. Ironically, I could order the part online myself and have it delivered overnight.

This situation highlights a significant reason for prolonged repair times: arbitrary restrictions on parts distribution from warehouses or other dealerships. This experience underscores a frustrating disconnect between parts availability and customer needs, resulting in arguably the worst automotive customer service I’ve ever encountered.

The alternative is to invest approximately $450 and a couple of hours of my own time to replace the pump myself, getting the truck back on the road much sooner. This experience raises questions about the value of a warranty when timely service is hindered by such restrictive parts practices. It makes one consider the potential benefits of purchasing a vehicle at a discount without a warranty.
